Youth Players: Mary Poppins Auditions

Youth Players: Mary Poppins Auditions mary-poppins-square.jpg

Exit 7 Players is pleased to announce the audition information for our summer youth musical production of Disney's Mary Poppins. Based on the P.L. Travers' book series and beloved Disney film, this Tony award winning musical has been celebrated by both audiences and critics. To the dismay of their parents, the Banks children have just dismissed another nanny. Suddenly, Mary Poppins arrives to bring enchantment and order to the troubled household. Together, all embark on a magical and uplifting journey, learning that anything can can happen if you let it.

Auditions will be held at the Exit 7 Players theater at 37 Chestnut Street in Ludlow, MA on Monday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 7 and at 6:30 pm. Callback auditions (if needed) will be held on Thursday, May 9 at the theater at 6:30 pm.

All roles are open. Youth from the ages of 9-18 are encouraged to audition. Anyone age 17 or 18 should have some form of ID or a birth certificate to verify their date of birth. Those auditioning for named roles should prepare the audition song listed below. People may audition for more than one role and/or for the ensemble. Those auditioning for the ensemble should be prepared to sing part of any song of their choosing. Please bring any sheet music for the accompanist, and no a cappella please. In the alternative, anyone auditioning for the ensemble may sing the ensemble audition song listed below.

Rehearsals will be three times a week, though not everyone will be called for every rehearsal. Anyone cast in the production will be expected to attend rehearsals, and must be available for all tech week rehearsals and performances. Please be prepared at auditions to list any dates (from the middle of May, to August 4) that you may be unavailable. Performance dates are July 26, 27 and July 28 and August 2, 3 and 4.

In addition to the vocal audition, those auditioning will be asked to participate in a section of dance/movement and may read from the script. Please let us know at auditions if you have any specific dance experience. Also, please wear clothing and shoes that are comfortable for dance. Headshot photos and resumes are welcome, but not required.

Although all roles are open, it will not be possible to cast everyone that auditions in the production. Because this is a youth production, it is possible that some of the older youth cast members may be cast as Mary, Bert and Mr. & Mrs. Banks, and that some of the younger cast members may be cast as Jane and Michael. However, there are no specific age ranges for any role. Please feel free to audition for the role that you think best matches your talents and abilities.

When learning music for any of the roles, please rely on the Original Broadway Cast Recording of the musical version of Mary Poppins and not the film version. Anyone cast in the production may learn to speak with the standard English accent (Received Pronunciation, RP) and/or a Cockney English accent. Attempts to try these accents at auditions are welcome, though it is not required.
